Symptoms of Fault

Broken tail light, poor visability when reversing

The Fault

Poor visability when reversing makes it easy to smash the tail lights

The Ford Transit Tippers, Dropsides and Lutons have poor visability when reversing, owing to a lack of sensors and cameras from factory combined with blind spots. The tail lights are the rear-most part of the vehicle and have no protection and thus easy to smash when manouvering.

The Solution

Protect your tail lights with the X8R tail light guards

Introducing the new X8R tail light guards, this listing is for the "essential" kit - the drill-on covers. These covers are easy to install, look the part, are the best and highest quality on the market and are easy to remove & replace to change bulbs.

Our covers are made from 3.5mm zinc-plated steel which is rust-resistant, hard-wearing and robust. Other options on the market are made from thinner material and more likely to bend under impact and therefore damage the tail lights underneath. Owing to the thicker material our lights have larger gaps to shine more light at night and improve visability to other road users.

To install simply drill four pilot holes using the drill bit provided, slide over the cover and insert the bolts & washers. To change a bulb simply undo the bolts and lift off the covers to access the tail lights.

Line up the covers over the tail lights. Ensure there is a reasonable gap between the covers and the tail light - if they are touching the covers will not protect the lights upon impact. Please see photo above to illustrate the gap.

Mark the drill holes using a chalk pen (or similar).

Remove the covers and begin to drill the holes using the drill bits provided. Drill pilot holes with the 3mm and increase to the 4mm thereafter.

If you choose to your your own drill bit ensure that it is a cobalt drill bit specifically for metal use.

Remember to drill two top and two bottom holes.

Rust protect the tail light bar by using a paint touch-up kit on the holes you have drilled. It is also worth doing this on any flaked or damaged paint on the bar. Follow up with a good quality wax oil.

Put the metal covers back over the tail lights and insert the bolts (with washers fitted) into the covers and drilled holes. Use a 8mm socket and rachet set to tighten them. Do not overtighten.
