Ford FCOM Trouble Codes Freeze Frame Function Guide

1.jpg

FCOM supports so called DTC Freeze frames. Every DTC is assigned variable set of environment data (such as mileage, battery voltage, engine speed, etc) at time of first DTC occurence. If multiple DTCs are present, ECU may record only first DTC freeze frame or only a subset of DTCs may contain freeze frame.

Please note that pre-UDS (ISO14229) ECU freeze frame is mostly limited only to petrol engines. All ISO14229 UDS ECUs usually support freeze frames. Freeze frame contents is determined by ECU for each DTC. The article shows how to read freeze frame for fault codes stored in BCM ECU. Freeze frame is available only for the first DTC displayed.
