My name is Arna Umap and I am a Sophomore at Monta Vista High School . For the Make it Modular challenge I designed and created a physical and digital model of an entrepreneurial pop up. My two story design is a space that could be used for a variety of purposes.

Supplies

For the digital model I used thinker cad, grab cad, and fusion 360. For the physical prototype I used foam board, a plastic bag, glue, paper and paint.

Digital Model Part 1

First I uploaded the given shipping container model to thinker cad and end created the two shipping containers into three different parts two flaps and one main body. Then I uploaded the bodies to fusion 360. I added hinges from the McMaster-Carr catalog.

Digital Model Part 2

I created foldable supports on either side and added chains to also support the foldable side bodies. I changed the appearance of the supports to be a wood color. I also made the window and flap in the front which are also supported by chains and made foldable by hinges.

Digital Model Part 3

I used STL files models from Grab Cad to add models of common materials used in Cafes for more detail. I added a kitchen sink, storage, tables, espresso machines, microwave, blender, a cashier machine, and lighting. I also added a ladder to travel up the floors.

Digital Model Part 4

For safety, I created a fence around the border which was smaller than the border of the shipping container so that when folded the fence could be tucked away as well. I changed the appearance of the bodies to have the same wood as the supports and a window glass.

Digital Model Part 5

I added more exterior details such as doors, upstairs and downstairs and a trapdoor to get upstairs from the inside. I also added a menu and a sign. From grab cad I found a stair STL which and I changed the colors of the steps and railing to more suit the color theme I chose for my cafe. Then I added a four motorized automatic winding reel so that the chains would be rolled up to fold up the sides in.

Finally, to decorate the cafe, I found models on grab cad for pillows, tables, chairs, plants and drinks. I created some string lights for outdoor lighting.

Physical Prototype Part 1

First, I cut and created the separate parts out of foam board.

Physical Prototype Part 2

I added paper strips to exterior parts to make the model appear more like a shipping container.

Physical Prototype Part 3

Next I assembled some of the parts using hot glue and painted the separate parts. I also added pieces of a plastic bag to the exterior of the fence to make is appear as glass.

Physical Prototype Part 4

I stuck the doors, flaps, and supports together using silver paper to act as hinges so they can open and close.

Finally, I glued chains on the flaps and base, the stair case, and added a sign and menu
