I created a foldable puzzle board. I am a fan of putting together puzzles but have limited space to make them on. To solve this problem I created a board that I could assemble my puzzle on top of with space for the pieces so that I wouldn't loose them and that I could put away when I was finished. This board can be folded up into a case and put away ensuring no lost pieces or progress and easy storage.

Supplies

  • Wood
  • Wood glue
  • measuring tape
  • pencil
  • cutting instrument of some kind (band saw, hand saw, circle saw, etc.)
  • spray paint
  • hinges
  • drill

Measure Your Wood

I used a scrap piece of plywood. You will need

  • one 24" x 15"
  • two 12" x 15"
  • four 10" x 1"
  • six 15" x 1"
  • two 22" x 1"

Cut the pieces out using a bandsaw, circle saw, or a jigsaw.

measure the different pieces on your scrap wood making sure to double check the final measurements.

Cut Wood

Use any cutting tool of your choosing and cut out the previously marked pieces. If needed sand the sides to avoid splinters when using the table later.

Glue

Lay out the pieces on a flat surface and arrange them in their desired locations before beginning to glue. One everything is in its rightful place glue the edge pieces to their corresponding surface with wood glue and leave to dry at least overnight.

Paint

This step is optional but if you would like to spray paint your piece do it after your glue has dried. Set all the pieces out on a plastic or cardboard surface that is easily cleaned or disposed of. Make sure to wear proper PPE when spray painting inside. Spray the top side of all the pieces then when that side has dried flip over and spray the other side.

Add Hinges

Once all pieces are dry lay out your hinges on the wood and get your drill ready. I recommend using a little painters tape to secure the hinges to the correct location while drilling. One everything is secure attach the hinges and test. After that you will have a complete puzzle board!
