Foldable Interior Wall Panel System
My concept is to provide a solution for those who wish to provide privacy for their guests in small studio apartments or other open spaces.
Through ideation, I pursued the concept of a design of wooden panels that can connect and fold themselves into stable and lightweight interior walls. Each panel can independently fold away and be removed from the overall system to create doors, windows, and openings.
Supplies
- 2'x2' wood panels
- Metal connector tracks
- Metal stands
Determining Use
The first step is to figure out all of the different uses that this panel system can shape the user's space. This can be as simple as walling off the bedroom, creating more room for a social gathering, or making space for a guest to spend the night.
Setup
After the multiple uses of the system are determined, the next step is the setup of these prefabricated materials:
- First, line up the metal stands where the barrier has been determined to be placed
- Next, attach the metal connector tracks to a wood panel to then be attached to the metal stands
- Repeat previous step until first layer of barrier is placed on the ground
- Once layout is completed, continue to attach the metal connector tracks to the wood panels and connect them to the already placed panels
- Repeat previous step until personal design is completed
- Once design is completed
Storage
The storage of this system is very easy. All it takes is to attach every panel together and fold them together in sheets and place them up against a wall or in a place that is out of the way.
Conclusion
The last thing needed to do is definitely a lot of research and prototyping to figure out how to make this system work. If you are interested in seeing a further development of this system, reach out to me and you can stay informed throughout my research as I am very interested in creating a completed full-scale system with the actual materials imagined in this concept.
Thank you for indulging in my interest of modular furniture/design!
