Foldable Hanger
A compact, 3D foldable coat hanger designed for small closets and limited storage spaces. The hanger features a cylinder hinge that folds inward when not in use, allowing it to collapse flat for easy storage or travel. When unfolded, it functions like a standard hanger, providing stable support for shirts, jackets, and lightweight coats. The simple, durable design minimizes material use while maintaining strength, making it practical, space-efficient, and easy to print on common home 3D printers.
Supplies
- Device with Fusion 360(or other Cad Software)
- 3d Printer
Sketch in Autocad
Sketching the structure
- creates a triangle structure with two mirrored rectangles at the bottom
- The dimensions vary depending on your needs and preferences. Personally, I used the same dimensions for a standard hanger.
- After making the initial outline, offset by 5 mm and connect the lines.
Adding Hinge and Hook Sketch
Hinge - After making a rough base for the hanger, measure out a section for the hinge.
- Circle diameters (10mm, 8mm)-outer cylinder, and (6mm)- inner cylinder)
- I then used the snapping features to put a line tangent to the circle on the left side, and the thickness may vary depending on how strong you want it.
- I used 5mm
Tip: If you have never made a hinge before, this video is great for beginners.

Hook
- Once the hinge is finished, the hook is made using the
Extruding Base
Once the sketch is finished, extrude the base of the hanger symmetrically (not one-sided)
- The dimensions extruded should match the radius of the largest circle
Extruding Hinge
After the base structure is extruded, depending on the dimensions of the hanger, find the length from top to bottom of the inner circle. Use that length for the dimension of the amount extruded for the inner solid cylinder. For the hollow cylinder, subtract 4-5 mm depending on the size of your hanger. Rotate both cylinders 90 degrees and adjust if necessary.
Depending on the size of your 3D printer, you may need to adjust the scale. Make sure to use a support that does not use too much filler so the hinge will function correctly.
Lastly,
Have fun with your compact hanger!
