Flower Shoes - by Madeline Stone
Hello everyone!
I have always wanted to design my own custom pair of shoes. I came across a pair of plain white shoes and I thought it would be fun to add my own colorful flower design to the shoes to brighten them up. I liked the fact that with imagination and colored markers you can transform your footwear. I had a fun time creating these shoes and I hope you do too!
Step 1: Materials
For this project you will need:
- White cloth shoes
- Newspaper
- Two small plastic bags
- Sharpies
- Medicine dropper
- Rubbing alcohol
- Paper towels (optional, can help if any of the color runs where you don't want it to be)
Step 2: Put Newspaper in Your Shoes and Add Colored Circles to the Shoes
To begin this project, fill the two small plastic bags with newspaper and put them inside of your shoes. Wash the shoes with a damp paper towel to remove any sizing, so the shoes can absorb the colored Sharpies. Let the shoes dry thoroughly.
Once the shoes are dry, take two different colored Sharpies ( one for the outer color of the flower and another for the center of the flower) and draw two different colored circles one within the other. I used different colored Sharpies to produce an array of flowers on the shoes.
Step 3: Add the Rubbing Alcohol to Your Shoes Using a Medicine Dropper
Now you want to fill your medicine dropper with rubbing alcohol. Once the medicine dropper is full, drop the rubbing alcohol drop by drop on the colored circles. Keep on adding the drops of alcohol on the dots until you get the desired tie dye effect on the shoes.
After the shoes dry, they are ready to wear!
