Flower Pot Lamp

Nothing special here. Just a DIY lamp like other 25374 on the Internet. I thought a nice flower pot would make a terrific desk lamp because I can put pens and other gazillion things on my desk in it.

The size of the pot will depend on the purpose of the lamp. I want mine to be a task lamp so a pot with a diameter of 3-4 inches, height of 5-7 inches would work.

Most pot would have a hole at the bottom to drain excess water. You can just run the wire through there and use some felt material to prop the pot up. My pot comes with the saucer attached but there are 2 small holes on the side. They are a little too small for the wire but I just widened them with some filers.

You can get creative here. I use PVC pipe for my lamp.

The length of the body depends on the lamp's purpose. A desk lamp should be about 20 inches tall including the shade. That means my PVC pipe should be about 10 inches long.

The method would vary greatly depends on the material you choose. I use hot glue on mine.

Depends on the body, you might want to use a threaded rod. My PVC pipe just happens to be a bit wider than the socket, and the gap between them is perfect for the hot glue.

Strip the wire about half an inch at each end. Make sure to wire the correct "hot" and "neutral" wire on the socket and the plug. You could do an Underwriter's knot on the socket.

Again, the method would vary greatly depends on the material you choose. I find hot glue the easiest way to do it.

Put the shade on top of the socket, then the light bulb.
