Floating Cube Illusion
In this instructable I hope to teach the reader how to create a floating illusion on paper
Supplies
To create your own simple floating illusion you must gather:
1 pencil,(preferably not mechanical)
1 piece of paper,( type not important)
Whatever object you will make "float"
Finally, a lot of patience, this took me forever to get even sort of right. I have attached the file for the 3d printed cube I used, it is just a 20mm x 20mm x 20mm cube.

Set the object being used on a sheet of paper near the top of the sheet to give you plenty of room. Mark the rightmost corner with a little X.
Hold the cube in the air above the piece of paper, align the rightmost corner with your mark. Next you must mark the boundaries of the cubes shadow, return the cube to it's place.
The next big step is shading the place where the cube's shadow was, keep in mind that it look's better when a bit smaller than what you originally outlined.
Once you are done shading all you need to do is find the right angle and position for the cube, this is hard because the placement should be about 3/4's of the way from the "shadow" and the mark. The rotation may look more acurate if it does not exactly mirror the shadow's orientation.
Finally you must consider your light source, if the cube casts a shadow, it will throw you off, having the the light above you seems best.
I hope you enjoy this new hobby of mine as much as I do. ;D
