Flexible Push Button Switch

Paper circuits are one of the best ways to start learning electronics for kids. Many times, they are stuck with ways to make switches with tape and paper alone.

Here, I'm sharing a quick instructable on making a push button switch using foam. This push button switch can be used with any paper circuit. This can be used in LED greeting cards and LED placard as well.

Skill Required: Beginners

Materials:

  • Paper circuit page
  • Coin cell battery
  • Foam sheet
  • Scotch tape
  • Cutter

Let's get started.

Placing the Battery & Foam

First of all place the battery on its location with the help of scotch tape.

Scotch tape is just required to position the battery.

Additionally, cut a piece of foam with a circular cavity and put it over the battery.

For circular cavity, the battery diameter is 20mm (20xx series lithium coin cell series like 2032, 2016 etc.). For other batteries, refer to datasheets.

Making a Foam Bridge

Cut the foam sheet in small parallel strips as shown in the figure and stick it on the top of battery.

Your conductive tape will go over it (as in image). The foam bridge helps in maintaining a safe distance with the battery terminal and prevents accidental connections.

The push button is ready to work.
