Flatbread
This instructable all started because like many living in the northeast right now we got blanketed with snow. Instead of trying to dig out vehicles and brave disgusting roads all for some bread we decided to make our very own flatbread. After researching many recipes we were able to create our very own recipe for the taste and consistency we were looking for.
We wanted a nice warm toasted flat bread that would be good for wraps or flatbread to load up with leftovers and cheese. The dry spice seasonings we added for that flavor but that is where you could add your own and create your own flavor
Gather Your Supplies and Ingredients
Gather your supplies and Ingredients:
Supplies:
- Measuring cups: 1 cup, and half a cup( i used 1/4th and just doubled it because i couldn't find my half)
- Measuring Spoons: 1 tablespoon 1 teaspoon
- Fork
- Bowl
- Cookie sheet
- Rolling Pin(picture not included until we realized we needed it)
Ingredients:
- 1 package yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup warm buttermilk
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning( i just used a little mix of basil oregano and parsley)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
Starting the Process
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees
We took warm tap water and mixed the buttermilk with it to make it all warm. At this point you add the yeast and stir it until its fully dissolved and into the bowl it goes. We have this as its own step but its just as easy to do it all in your bowl( and we actually did it that way for the second batch of flatbread that we made)
Making Your Bread
In your mixing bowl add your ingredients. in goes the flour, oil, sugar, salt, Italian seasonings, garlic and Parmesan cheese. mix well
I started with a fork and once the wet ingredients mixed with the dry moved right to mixing it by hand, just to make sure that all the dry ingredients were mixed well within the bread.
Roll It Out
On a floured surface use your rolling pin to roll it out I rolled it out to the size of the cookie sheet we were using.
Lightly oil your pan then put your flatbread on it and put it in the preheated oven to cook
That's It
The first batch we cooked for 15 minutes and it did create that nice soft but crispy flatbread. We cooked a second batch that we only left in for 7 minutes and this created the nice soft bread that could easily be used for wraps.
Different Options Once Your Bread Is Done
One kid used chicken and chopped jalapenos covered in a little cheese another chose chicken peppers and onions covered in a little cheese lastly we used cheese and pepperoni and make a sandwich
