Flat Iron Curling
Yes, you read that right, curling with a flat iron! Although it sounds easy in theory, the form of curling can be hard to get down on the first try. That is why I made this tutorial to help!
Supplies
All you will need is the following:
A flat iron
Clips
Styling comb
White tissue
Practice Without Heat
It can be a little tricky to get the hand motion down. This is why you should first practice without the flat iron on. Please see step 4 video for the curling technique. Leave it unplugged; plug it in when you're ready for heat!
Test the Iron
Before touching the hair, press the flat iron on a piece of white tissue paper. This will tell you if the iron is too hot for hair. If the tissue looks fine after touching the iron, it is a suitable temperature for curling. If the tissue changes to a brown colour then it is too hot and you must turn it down or it will fry the hair.
Sectioning
To section, I use the styling comb to measure an inch or two (depending on the hair thickness) and pin the rest up with a clip. This will keep that hair out of the way while you curl.
Curling
First, you glide the straightener down the hair strand to heat it up, this will help it curl easier. Please watch this video on how to make a curl.
Repeat
Now you are set! You can curl the rest of that section and drop it down another inch or two. Repeat this until all hair has been curled.
Style
Finally, you can gently brush through the curls with your fingers to style the curls more. And done! You've successfully curled with a flat iron!
