Flamingo Memo Holder
If you are like me, you believe flamingos are one of the prettiest animals. And you´ll love this memo holder.
Fun fact: Flamigos' pink colour comes from beta-carotene (like the pigments of carrots) in the crustaceans and plankton that flamingos eat. Zoo flamingos will turn white if their diet is not supplemented with live shrimp or flamingo chow containing carotenoid pigments.
If you are a beginner seamstress, this project is perfect for you. You'll practice your skills with a fabric that's easy to sew, and because we'll cover it with feathers if your seam isn't perfect no one will notice. And it's way prettier than the typical pouch, bean bag or pin cushion.
If you have experience sewing, you'll be able to make it in less than 10 minutes.
It looks cute in the fridge, holding your notes, in an office, classroom or even a bedroom.
Make a space colourful, playful and stylish!
Gather Your Materials
Scissors
Glue gun
Black and pink thread
A magnet
1 hair duckbill clip. It's a long, slim, metallic clip for holding sections of hair during styling or cutting.
Stuffing
Black felt
Pink felt
White fabric
Pink feathers
Cut
Print the pattern and cut it out.
For reference my hair clip is 9cms long. It's pretty standard, but if you find bigger or smaller clips you'll need to adjust the size of the pattern before printing.
Cut the fabric, you'll have two identical pink pieces for the head, one black for the lower beak, one black for the upper beak, one white, and two eyes
Sew the Beak
Start sewing the lower beak. Just fold it and sew through the longest edge (as shown in the picture)
Make the seam close to the edge, or trim the seam allowance once you finish sewing.
Now for sewing the upper part of the beak, first fold the white fabric and place it on top of the beak.
Now fold both fabrics so that the white one stays inside.
Sew also through the longest edge.
Assemble the Beak
The part that's black and white turn it right side out, use the hair clip to push it.
The lower beak is so thin we won't turn it. Just place it on the clip, with the seam in the inner part.
Make two snips close to the opening so that it fits better.
Stuff the black and white part.
Sew and Stuff the Head
Put the two pink pieces together. Sew around as shown in the picture.
Don't sew where the beak will be. That 1 inch opening will help us later.
Cut the corners of the neck as shown in the picture.
Turn it right side out through the opening, then stuff it.
Assemble the Flamingo
Before sticking the feathers, glue the beak in place and the magnet in the back.
Glue the Feathers
In other to have that "fluffy hairstyle" only glue the hard part of the feather.
Glue as many feathers as you want. I used about 8.
Finally glue the eyes.
Enjoy!
That's it, now you have the cutest magnet ever. It will hold your notes with so much style.
You can put a pin instead of a magnet and pin it on a cork board or wall.
