Fizzy Toilet Cleaning Tablets
I admit that cleaning toilets is probably one of my least favorite activities. I always used super caustic cleaners like "The Works" to clean off the residue and stains in the toilet bowls. However, after moving into a house that uses a septic system, I have removed any soaps that are "antibacterial" as well as the super caustic bathroom cleaners, to try and keep all the bacteria in the septic tank happy and continuing to do their job!
For hand and dish cleaners, I have converted to Liquid Castile Soap, and have been experimenting with a variant of "bath bombs" as a quick, easy way to clean my toilets. The fizzy aspect of these tablets have the added benefit of my daughters actually WANTING to clean their toilets!

Ingredients
I searched many different versions of "Toilet Bomb" recipes online, and have been experimenting with my own variants. I think I have finally found the combination that I like the most. The basic recipe is primarily baking soda and citric acid with essential oils. However, to give this cleaning power, I decided to add borax as well. This last batch has been the one I was most pleased with, including the form factor.
You will need:
2 Cups Baking Soda
1 Cup Citric Acid (I ordered food grade citric in bulk online)
1 Cup 20 Mule Team Borax
Essential Oils (I used a combination of Tea Tree Oil and Citrus essential oils: Lemon, Lime, Orange, and Grapefruit)
Water in a spray bottle
You will need:
2 Cups Baking Soda
1 Cup Citric Acid (I ordered food grade citric in bulk online)
1 Cup 20 Mule Team Borax
Essential Oils (I used a combination of Tea Tree Oil and Citrus essential oils: Lemon, Lime, Orange, and Grapefruit)

Shaping and Storing the Toilet Tab
The quantities given in this recipe will allow you to make about 2 dozen "muffin cakes" if you use a mini muffin pan.
Just fill each space in the muffin tin with the powder/essential oil mixture, and then gently pack it down. You can choose to make flat top muffins (like I made here) or rounded top muffins.
I only had one mini muffin pan, so I needed to store the completed toilet tabs before making the rest. I discovered that a empty egg carton is the perfect size for storing these toilet tabs! If they are still damp, I recommend using wax paper underneath the toilet tabs so they don't stick to the egg carton.

Floaters Vs. Sinkers
I'm taking about toilet tablets, not the other stuff that goes into a toilet!
The first batches of toilet tablets tha I made (which were toilet balls, similar to bath bombs) would roll down into the pipes. Presumably the pipes got clean, but the toilet bowl, not as much. My next batch I made with flat sides in the hopes that they would sink to the bottom of the bowl and not roll, and fizz in the toilet bowl. This was sometimes (but not always successful). This latest batch that I'm sharing with you, contains a higher amount of citric acid, actually floats while it fizzes, which is what I really want, in order to have a cleaner toilet bowl.
