Fix/Mod a Propel Spyder Drone

My nephew's dog ate his Propel Spyder drone and I rescued it from the trash hoping the electronics still worked.

Removing the Screws

I started by removing the screws from the underside of the drone to reveal the electronics.

BAM! all looks good. I charged up the battery and tested the motors and it was ON!

Inspecting the Parts

Carefully inspect the hardware and take lots of pictures so you can remember were everything goes.

Desoldering

Desolder motors one at a time. Doing this Makes it easier to keep track. I took some jumper cables I had lying around and cut them to the length I needed. Then I stripped, twisted and tinned the ends.

Extending the Wires of the Motors

After tinning the wire that are cut to the desired length, proceed to solder to the ends of the wires attache to the motors carefully keeping track positive and negative.

Now take some heat shrink tube and apply some to one wire and a bigger one to seal them both.

Put Together

Carefully start to put the pieces together.

I used the top of my frame to hold the battery and basically using the frame upside down for my needs and it works fine. I'm using a hubsan x4 gen2 frame.

Add some double sided sticky tape to the bottom of the flight controller and place on you frame.

The motors need to firmly be pushed thru the sockets carefully.

Installing the Props

I didn't know where the blade needed to go so I powered on the craft and figured out what direction the motors spun and put the blade on there proper motors. I added a diagram to show the direction of how the props should be placed.

Test Flight

Now its time to go for a test flight. Sync your drone to the remote and take it for a spin.

My drone fly's but is very unstable. I need to do some more modding to the frame to make lighter and balanced.

For the most it is still fun to fly.

Not bad for trash.
