Fix Your Charger Cable Before It Stops Working
Often, cables used for cell phones, tablets, and other technological devices are prone to breaking, just like the one shown in the image. Despite their damaged appearance, they may still function for a while. However, we know that their lifespan is limited, and they will soon need to be replaced. Fortunately, this doesn't have to be the case. In this instructable, I will guide you on repairing, reinforcing, and personalizing these cables, giving them a stronger build and a fresh new look.
Supplies
- Electrical tape
- Thick threads (I used some for macrame)
- Cold porcelain
Electrical Tape
The first thing I did was cover the gaps in the wire with some electrical tape. I cut the electrical tape to the smallest size I could because if I wrapped the tape several times, the wire would become thicker and when weaving it would look uneven.
First Knot
I made two (normal) knots that joined the two threads.
Then I put the tie made on the cable, and with the ends of the remaining threads I made two more knots so that the thread was tied to the cable.
Covering the Cable
This is how to make the weave to cover the cable:
- The thread that is on the right (the blue one), pass it to the left side over the cable.
- Pass the thread on the left (the green one) over the thread from the right (the blue one)
- Pass the left thread (the green one) under the cable to the right side
- Pass the thread from the left (green) inside the thread on the right (blue)
- Pull the threads to tighten the knot
Every time you tie a knot, the colors of the threads will be inverted, it is important that you always start the knot with the thread that is on the right side, no matter what color it is.
When you have made so many knots that the cable is completely covered, make two (normal) knots to finish and cut the excess thread.
Cold Porcelain
Now cover the (normal) knots made at the beginning and end of the cable with cold porcelain to prevent them from coming undone. Then cover the plastic parts of the cable with a very thin layer, without going to cover the metal parts on which the connections depend.
Let it dry and it will be ready to use!
