This instructable is for right hand drive cars but can be adapted for left hand drive.

Parts required:

2 fork mounts

1 piece cardboard (for template) 1200mm x 600mm (approximately)

1 piece plywood 1200mm x 600mm x 8mm (approximately)

4 large washers

4 small washers

4 bolts

4 lock nuts

Measure the Back of Your Car

Measure the extreme width at the back—the wing area that sticks out to the sides.

Measure depth from back of car to the back seat. To fit two bikes in the Jazz, the passenger needs to sit in the small back seat.

I had a piece of 8mm plywood that was already 1200mm x 600mm and that was just right.

Trace the Shape of the "wing" Areas.

Take any piece of scrap paper and trace the curve of the back. All you need to trace is one part that sticks out, both sides are the same.

Copy the Contour to a Piece of Cardboard

Flip paper over to copy to the other side.

Cut Out the Cardboard

Check to make sure it fits in the car.

Make any necessary adjustments.

Copy the Template Shape Onto the Plywood

Cut out the plywood.

We used a bandsaw but a jigsaw would work too.

Place the plywood in the car.

Attach a Fork Mount to One Bike’s Front Fork.

Position the First Bike in the Car.

This step is trial and error.

Push the passenger seat to the front and lean the seat back forward.

Remove the bike seat.

With the fork mount attached to the bike, lift up the bike and place it into the car rear wheel first.

It will take a little manoeuvring to find the best spot.

Remember, you want to put two bikes in so keep the first one to the side behind the front passenger seat.

When the bike is in so that the hatch door can be closed, mark the position of the fork mount holes on the plywood.

Fix the Fork Mount to the Plywood

Take the bike and plywood out of the car.

Drill holes where marked.

Using the nuts, bolts and washers, attach the fork mount to the plywood.

Repeat Steps 7 and 8 With the Other Bike

This fork mount will have to be positioned on a different angle from the first so the handlebars don’t clash.

The back wheels of the bikes will be more or less parallel to each other behind the front seat.

Add a Piece of Vinyl to Protect Floor Area

I used vinyl because I had a large scrap but cardboard or a large piece of cloth would also work.

Put Both Bikes in Car

13_IMG_2614_I.JPG

Put the rear passenger seat up then put in the front wheels. They fit well on the outside of each bike.

Tie the wheels to each frame with a piece of rope to keep them from moving (and also to keep the correct wheel with the correct bike).

Gear Fits on the Front Passenger Seat

15_IMG_2618_I.JPG

Seats, helmets, gloves and shoes stashed in a large bag fit nicely on the front passenger seat.

Hydration packs fit on the floor.

There’s plenty of room in the back for extra gear.

Close the Rear Door and Drive Away

The bikes stay still even on windy roads.

Once everything is ready, it takes less than 10 minutes from placing the plywood in the car to driving away.
