Rainbow Fishing Buoy Lamp

this is a wonderful lamp made of a old fishing buoy and is equipped with rope for practicing knot tying .

Supplies

one old fishing buoy

one 2"x2" approximately 25" long

one 1" diameter dowl 30" long

wood glue

tools required: drill, saws (I used a chop saw, bandsaw, jigsaw), file, dremel, rubber mallet

Rope

paper towel role

LED light strips

clear packing tape

Building the Base

cut 2"x2" in half

directly in the middle cut a 1" deep and 2" wide notch in both 2"x2" as shown in the image

they should fit together in t formation as shown in the image

Making Hole for Lamp Post

place dowl in top of notch and trace a circle as shown in the image

drill multiple hole in the center of the circle

use a jigsaw to cut out the circle, the drilled holes will help you with this step. make sure when using jigsaw you do not cut the hole too big

use file and sand paper to shave down the inside of the circle until the dowl fits snuggly

Glue Base and Post Together

put glue inside both holes and area where both notches connect

before glue dries put the bases together and push & twist pole into hole, if needed tap top of pole with a mallet as shown in photo.

let glue thoroughly dry

Prepare Buoy

take buoy and use tools you have to cut small piece off the bottom as shown in the image

drill a hole at the top of the buoy off to the side near the loop as shown in the image

Installing LED Lights

cut a paper towel roll to be about 1" shorter than the inside length of the buoy

wrap LED lights around paper towel roll leaving 2" to spare on each side as shown in image

tuck end without the plug into the end of the paper towel roll, feed the end with the plug through the hole in the buoy as shown in the image

Prepare the Rope

cut rope in half if needed use match or lighter to prevent fraying

tie rope back together using double fisherman's knot as shown in the image

Attach Buoy to Stand

slide buoy on top of stand and tie clove hitch and lash buoy to pole as shown in the image

attach LED light to the power cord and tape power cord to the stand stopping about 6" above the bottom


Wrap Stand

wrap rope around the pole over the power cord to about 2" above the bottom

tie off rope to the bottom using a clove hitch

optional step: leave a foot of rope after the last clove hitch to practice knot tying as shown in the image
