Cat-shaped and Fish-shaped Candles From Old Crayons and Candles
Today was my first time making candles and as a cat lover and owner, I decided to shape them into a cat and one of its best-loved food -fish. In this instructable, I will share with you my detailed trial of making a cat-shaped candle and a recap of making the fish-shaped one.
Supplies
Generally, I don't like to buy new supplies for artwork but rather I search my home for any materials that can be reused, and here are what I found:
Ingredients:
- 2 old candles (15 grams each).
- Crayons ( blue, dark blue, and brown).
Tools:
- 2 Aluminum foil plates.
- Pen and paper.
- Coffee pot.
- Pan filled with water.
- Stove.
Drawing
Draw a cat with a height of around 7 cm on a piece of paper then place it on the aluminum foil plate after that trace the drawing with a pen.
Making the Mold
Punch out the inside of the drawing using the pen base then punch twice on the front legs to make them pop out more.
Melting the Candles
Place a pan filled with water on a stove and when it boils put the coffee pot with one candle in it in the water then keep shaking it gently until the wax melt, after that crash a piece of brown crayon and add it to the wax then stir.
Molding the First Half
Pour the wax into the mold little by little then tilt the mold to distribute the wax evenly and place the candle wick, after the wax solidifies pop it out gently.
Molding the Second Half
Smooth the front legs placed in the mold then repeat the previous step.
Sticking the Halves
Add some wax on one half then stick the other half on it.
Adding Features
Light up a white candle and let it drip one wax drop for each eye, for the nose use a pink one then remove excess wax with a fork.
Shaping a Base
Shape a piece of aluminum foil into a small rectangular tray and pour the wax into it then let the cat rest on it.
Repeat
Repeat the previous steps using the blue crayon.
Taking the Candle Out
Take the candle out gently and remove the excess parts.
Trying the Candles
Now light up the candles and feel that mixed feeling of accomplishment and seeing your effort melt.
