Fireplace Coffee Bar

Our kitchen was always cold in the winter so I decided to make this fireplace from an old cabinet I found at a garage sale.

Supplies

You'll need a cabinet, fireplace insert, screwdriver, paint or stain, polyurethane. If your fireplace doesn't fit perfectly like mine did you may need some wood pieces to frame out the opening in cabinet so that your fireplace fits snug.

Research

Check out fireplace inserts online. Look for size, style and price that fits your needs. Don't buy yet.

Find Your Cabinet

Start looking for a cabinet. I found mine for $25 at a garage sale. Look for size, drawers, doors whatever your preference, but most importantly MEASURE THE OPENING WHERE THE FIREPLACE WILL GO. Match a fireplace with that size opening in cabinet. Try to get as close as possible or else you will need to make adjustments.

Deconstruction

Remove the doors and drawers. I removed the trim on doors, filled holes, sanded and added a 2" wood trim on the doors then painted the cabinet. Sanded and finished the top. Drill a hole through back large enough for the cord of fireplace to go through.

Install Fireplace

Install fireplace as per instruction manual. Thread cord through hole. Screw the fireplace in (mine had 4 screws). You may need to make some adjustments, depending on size of your opening.

Finishing

Finish how you like. I taped off a section and painted black chalk board paint and added shelves. Turn on your fireplace and enjoy!!
