Fire Pit Renovation

Our fire pit area is overgrown and our firewood pile is a disaster! For my project, I decided to spread gravel around the fire pit so it will be safer to put a fire in. I also built a firewood rack to keep the wood clean and off of the ground, and cleaned up the firewood area.
Supplies
Supplies
- Circular saw
- Drill
- 3/8x10 inch screws
- 8 foot 2x4 (4)
- 2 foot 4x4 (4)
- Gravel
- Shovel
- Wagon (optional)
- Mower (optional)
Build the Firewood Rack

For the fire wood rack, I made it eight feet long and one foot wide. This was the perfect size for me, but it could be different depending on personal needs. For this I used my circular saw to cut one 2x4 into four eight inch long pieces. Next, I screwed them in (evenly spaced) between two eight foot long 2x4s. After they were secured with two screws on each side, I cut four, five foot long boards out of the remaining 2x4s. Once those were nice and secured on each corner of the frame, I was finished with Firewood Rack.
Placing the Rack

To place the rack, I put it on top of the four, two foot long 4x4s to keep it off of the ground. I did this to keep it from getting in the mud and rotting.
Laying the Gravel and Enjoying

Next with a push mower I scalped the grass where I would be laying the gravel. After it was scalped and the clippings were out of the way, I began the process of laying a three foot wide perimeter around the fire pit. I then made a three foot wide trail to where my firewood rack was. Finally, I moved the giant, ugly, rotting, firewood pile out, and re-stacked the "good" wood on the firewood rack.
Good luck with the build and have fun!
