Fire Hawk (Lilith) From Borderlands Cel Shading

Everyone loves the thrill of putting together awesome cosplays. We will work for hours, sometimes days to make a wonderful outfit. we sometimes forget the little things to bring your cosplay to the next level. I will show you some tips on how to achieve cell shading without a professional pallet.

Base for Yo Face

So at your local Ulta you can find all of these pieces. If you do not have an Ulta then a Walmart or Walgreens will have similar items.

I used a pore filler because I have large pores and this helps my skin look more smooth and soft.

I based my face in white because lilith is very very fair. Bringing my skin to a zero (white) will make it easier to contour. After my blended white coat I take my fair primer and concealer and start contrasting out my cheekbones, nose and jaw line.

Bring in Some Color

Now having achieved a nice fair base I bring in a soft pink blush on the cheeks. Lilith has a slimmer face than I so I blush out the centers of my cheeks like hers but then also use the blush to contour beneath my cheekbones and under my jaw bone so give a slimmer illusion.

She also has a yellow smoked undereye shadow so I use a yellow paint and then trim it in gold highlighter.

Brows

I fill in my brows in a med brown pencil and then use a black fine point liquid liner pen to then trace out the brows again and draw in a few hairs in the directions the hair naturally grows.

You want the drawn lines to look like an illustration so it is ok to have thicker lines and thinner lines. The blacker, the better. Wet and wild have a chisel tip liquid liner that is perfect for this. The makeup will ultimately clog and ruin your liner so don't use anything expensive. Pencil liners won't give you solid black maker look that you need and obviously the most ideal applicator is a black paint with a xs fine tip point brush.

I also lighten my eyelids with white and contour my lids with a powder pink to match my cheeks.

More Lines and Lips

I use the same liner and start tracing out other areas of my face, neck and collar bones. I am using the profile image of Fire Hawk online as a reference to where the lines go. Don't over do it here or you will look ridiculous.

She has a tomato red lip that is blended to black in the corners.
I used my red lipstick and a black eye liner to do this.
I lined out my outside of my eyes including my waterline.

Jaki is in the back being silly. I was doing a maya makeup on her at the same time. I will do a separate writeup for her.

The Tattoo

I used a light metallic blue shadow pencil to get the tattoo to look somewhat decent. This is a great fix and it only took a few minutes to trace it out.

Done!

That Is pretty much it...
throw in some yellow contacts and fix your hair or put on a wig. All of this makeup is going to cost maybe $20 for the cheapest options and it will make you look sooo much more in character than just going with a naked face or your normal make up.
