Fingerboard Skateramp
I made a fingerboard skateramp as a Christmas present for a 11-year old boy who resently started fingerboarding. I bought some second-hand plywood for this project. There was no need to use new materials for this project. The project is build with second-hand materials and old materials I already had lying around. If you can't find any plates of good quality you can for sure buy some at your local hardware store.
Supplies
12mm Plywood (I used one plate of 120x100cm)
Wood glue
2 steel rods or tubes
studry plastic sheet (I used one with a thickness of 1mm)
Nails
Mounting adhesive
Hammer
Jigsaw
circular saw
box cutter knife
Sander
Sandpaper
Make a Plan
The fingerboard ramp was first drawn in fusion 360 to get an idea of how the ramp looks. This way a plan can be made to cut the pieces out of the plywood.
The plan I used is attached as a .pdf file.

Cut the Plywood
Draw the pieces on the plywood and cut the straight lines with the circular saw and the curves of the skateramp with the jigsaw. When all pieces have been sawn, you can put the ramp together to see if all pieces fits.
Both top pieces still need to be adjusted at a later stage to fit the rails.
Glue/nail the Plates Together
First take the baseplate and put some glue at the lines where the curved pieces needs to be assambled. Attach them to the baseplate and secure them with nails to keep them in place.
Next, Attach the side panels, first with glue and next secure with nails. I used some corner pieces to make sure the corners are 90°. After attaching both side pieces, put some glue over the corners and open spaces and let it dry overnight.
Note that the top pieces are not yet attached. They still needs to be adjusted.
Attach the Plastic Sheet
Cut out the plastic sheet to the correct width but a larger length than necessary.
Start nailing the sheet from the middle part towards the side of the ramp. When the sheet is stuck to the plywood, cut the remaining sides to about 1cm of the top (or put the top piece on and cut at this length.)
Attach the Top Pieces and the Rails
- The First step is to adjust the top pieces so that the rail fits between the plastic sheet and the top piece of the wood. To make sure the rail can fit there, a small portion of the top pieces is cutted out. By setting the circular saw to a depth of 6mm I could easily make a groove in the material. Make it so that the rails will fit in perfectly.
- Now the top pieces can be glued to the skateramp like done before with the other pieces. Secure the plates with nails. wait some time for the glue to dry.
- When the groove is cut and the top plates are in place, you can cut the remainings of the plastic sheets to the correct size so it will be as high as the groove. This way the sheet will stop exactly underneath the rails.
- put some tape on the edge of the groove so that no glue can get next to the groove. Take some Mounting adhesive glue and put it into the groove. Next, the steel rods or tubes can be attached to inside the groove.
- When the glue is dry, the masking tape can be removed.
Finish the Ramp
When all the glue is dry, check if there are no pieces that do not fit properly. If there are, fill them with some wood filler.
Next the skateramp needs to be sanded so that is is smooth and there are no splinters in the wood. You could always smoothen the corners as well.
After that clean the wood from any sawdust.
Take a piece of cloth and some olive oil to treat the wood. You dont need a lot of oil, just a littlebit. Put the some drops of oil on the cloth and rub it to the plywood of the ramp to give it a nice color.
You can also decorate the ramp with some skate stickers! Have fun, I hope you enjoyed! :)
