If you have a small metal crate laying around you could recreate it into something a little more fun. In this tutorial I will show you how I turned this metal crate into a perfect rail for your fingerboard needs. Though this easy 8 step process you can turn trash to treasure. Make sure to have fun.

Supplies

1.old metal crate

2.marker

3.bolt cutters

4.grinder/hand saw

5.clamp

6.table/work space

Mark Where You Want to Cut

In order to make this the way you want you need to know what you want the rail to look like. In order to stay on track and cut a metal bar that you need make sure to mark every bar you want to cut with a marker.

Cut the Bars

Now that we have figured out where we want to cut we must go through the tedious act of cutting the individual bars with a bolt cutter. The bolt cutter allows us to cut a majority of the crate so we are left with the rail. Make sure you do it right and only cut the marked bars. With the pieces take the middle one out because this is going to be our rail.

Cut Off Hanging Edges

For the rail to work properly we need to have smooth edges so the board can slide properly along the surface. With the grinder or saw slowly cut away the hanging edges. with the grinder make sure you wear safety glasses.I used the grinder a found it does a great job and taking away the edge but be careful to not cut the main part of the rail.

File Down Sharp Edges

there will be a slight edge left so in order to stay safe we need to smooth out the sharp parts. With a file smooth down each individual piece this is very important so don't skip this step.

Attach to Any Table

For the last step we need to attach our new rail to a table or surface we can fingerboard. You can make permanent attachments or temporary ones. I wanted to do a temporary one so I choose to use tape to attach my rail to a table. Use the feet to attach to a suffuse in order for the attachment does not get in the way of the fingerboard.
