Favourite Belt Buckle Repair

Recently I broke my favourite belt buckle, which has 2 pins to lock the belt. I asked in some near haberdashery shops, but nobody could help me finding one.

So I thought, I can repair that with low price and some basic tools.

I used a disk grinder but a metal saw works in the same way, some round small files, my bench vise, a drill press with the right drill bit(3mm), and loctite glue.

To build the buckle I used a 6mm diameter steel rod and a 3mm diameter nail.

Start with measuring the right length of the 6mm steel rod and carve a little notch to make the bending easier.

You'll need to do this operation 2 times for the two 90° angles of the new buckle.

When completed notching, hold firmly the rod on the vise and bend it at 90°, 2 times.

Drill the two holes to allow the nail to "complete the buckle".

The best way to do this is filing down a little spot in the part of the buckle that you have just bent, clamping the rod and just drill two holes. Try to find a drill bit that allows you to keep a snug fit between the rod and the nail.

Cut all the pieces to the right length and file smudges.

Assemble the belt again and add a dot of loctite to keep the nail solidly attached to the buckle.

Your belt is useful again, and you don't have to buy a new one. :)
