Fast French Toast Cubes Recipe...YUM!

IMG_5415.JPG

Sometimes I get in the mood for French Toast, but I don't want to take the time to let the bread soak in the flat pan until all the batter is absorbed.

This is a recipe I came up with off the top of my head yesterday morning, and it turned out pretty great so I made it again this morning and took photos so I could write it up on Instructables for you to try.

After I made the first batch, I looked on the web, and it turns out that there are already other recipes for this already out there. That's OK, because I came up with this one before I saw those. Besides, this one is REALLY fast to make (about 5 minutes total for prep and cooking) and turns out really delicious.

Let's get to it!

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients and Tools

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon real vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Maple syrup to taste

You will also need the following tools:

  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Wire whisk
  • Mixing spoon
  • Sharp knife to cut the bread
  • Wide frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Stovetop
  • Serving dish and fork

Step 2: Mix All the Ingredients Except the Bread

Put all the ingredients in the bowl and whisk them all up really well.

Step 3: Cut the Bread Into Cubes and Add It In

Cut the bread into 3/4" cubes, then add the bread cubes to the mixture and fold them in gently, coating all the cubes completely with the mix.

Step 4: Fry the Coated Cubes Until Golden Brown

Put some butter into the pan and get it hot and sizzling.

Then add the coated bread cubes and stir gently and turn over until they are cooked to a golden brown with a good amount of Maillard effect on them.

Drizzle with maple syrup, and enjoy!

(Total prep and cook time is about 5 minutes.)
