Farmhouse Style Serving Tray

This serving tray is super quick to make, doesn’t cost a lot of money in materials, and can sell easily to the right buyer.

1. (2) 1 x 4 x 8' Construction Lumber
2. Brad Nails
3. Wood Stain
4. Clear Coat
5. (2) Handles

Start with 1×4 lumber and using the miter saw, cut (2) pieces to 14” long and (4) pieces to 16” long.

Arrange the 16” long pieces to be touching at the edges. Apply glue to one side of one of the 14” long pieces.

Ensuring all pieces are aligned, brad nail the 14” long piece into each of the 16” long pieces.

Apply glue to one side of the other 14” long piece and align it to the other end of the project.

Brad nail this piece into the the 16” long pieces as well. Use brad nails that are less than 1-1/2” long to ensure they do not go all the way through the 2 pieces of 3/4” material.

Use a sanding block or piece of sandpaper to lightly sand the entire project. If youre using construction lumber, do not sand too heavily. This material is soft and will sand away quickly.

Apply your favorite wood stain. I opted for the Dark Walnut color by Minwax.

Once the stain fully dries, apply a clear coat. I opted to use lacquer.

Locate the middle of the 14” long pieces on each side and layout where the holes need to go for your handles.

Drill out the holes that will accommodate the bolts for your handles.

Install handles on each side of the tray, through the 14” long pieces.

This project is now complete and is ready to be sold, gifted, or used in your personal home!
