Fake Burgers.

Do not know about you but we love lentils. So much so I wanted to try a fake hamburger recipe to see if they were good with lentils. Very simple ingredients and easy to make.

Ingredients.

1 to 2 - Eggs (we used and extra large).
1/2 - Cup old fashion oats. (we used 5 minute oats for this demo).
1/2 - Cup onion extra finely chopped.
 2 - cups cooked lentils.

Spices and etcetera are optional.

Cooking oil for frying.

The Lentils.

Lentils were left over, so I did not have any picture of them cooking.

Threw the lentils in a heavy pot and covered with water. (no pre-soak.)
Put stove on high heat and bring to a boil.
Stir well till the water starts boiling and nothing will still to the bottom.
After the lentils have been boiling for a few minutes, add one generous teaspoon baking soda.
The pot will foam up, so get ready to turn down the heat.
Bring back to a boil and watch it for a few minutes.
Turn off the heat and cover. Let sit for about a half hour or so.
Put in the fridge.
When cool, rinse the lentils in cool tap water
Drain and put in the fridge until you need them in the next day or so.

The Patty Mixture.

Mix all the ingredients and and spices if you elected to use them in a big bowl.
Mix well with a heavy spoon or potato masher
You can add a teaspoon or so of water if you need to, but no more.
Put the bowl in the refrigerator for the patty batter to tighten up.

The Patties.

Once the patties have gelled in the fridge, mold them into patties.
Put some oil in the pan and cook them as you would burgers.
If you do not have to be one hundred percent vegetarian, use rendered fat from cooking other meats to add to the flavor.
So cook them until browned.

Serving.

Serve them in a traditional sandwich, for if you prefer not to use bread, use lettuce leaves and eat them like a burrito. They are also fantastic broken up over a traditional salad.
