Hello instrucables!

The bird nesting season is up and running and so it was time to get creative making a birdhouse. Not just a birdhouse but also a fake surveillance camera! Ideal for the feeling of security and also convenient for the birds. Made this birdhouse of leftover panel of 12mm plywood and by reusing it in this way it's useful for a long time again! The process is quite simple and it's not difficult to make your own version of this birdhouse. See the render for the sizes so you can calculate the dimensions of the wooden parts you will need, since it varies depending on the thickness of the wood panel.

Enjoy this project :-)

Most important ingredients are the scrap plywood, the wooden rod, a drill + hole saw, a jigsaw, sanding paper, nails and glue. But if you have the following tools: circular saw, disc sander, sanding machine, nail gun and drill press that would save a lot of time ;-)

For the rest, paint, long screw, sanding paper and a little piece of electrical cable will be enough to make this birdhouse.

Calculate, Cut & Drill Your Needed Parts

Calculate the part dimensions with the rendered image of the camera. sizes vary depending on the thickness of the wood panel you are going to use. Cut out all the parts and use your hole saw to make the needed holes and wooden discs. Most of the cutting can be done with a jig saw but i used the circular saw to save some time. glue 2 big discs on top of each other and sand down in a light angle.

Assembling the Birdhouse

When everything is cut and drilled we can start assembling. First is to build the base camera box. Next step is tacking the roof over the camera box. glue the camera lens and the bird perch onto the birdhouse. Assemble the camera support and afterwards you can see where to screw the support onto the camera house.

Finishing Up!

Make it last longer and look more like a real camera by painting your birdhouse in a light grey or white paint. Also adding a piece of electrical cable makes it more realistic :-)

Install and Wait for the First Residents!

Mount onto a tree and lets see if there will be birds come to occupy the CCTV camera soon! :-)
