Fairy House Log Planter

This is how I made a magical fairy house planter for my entry way garden from a hollow log.

Supplies

Hollow log or stump, rocks, scrap wood, scrap door fittings, potting soil, flowers, drill, screw driver, hot glue

Move Hollow Log in to Place and Add Rock "Porch"

I live in a wooded area and found this hollow log on the side of the road. Logs can be heavy, try to get some help with moving because you ain't got but one back and you need to take care of it for more projects. This was the hardest part of this project. :)

I positioned my log in an empty spot behind some decorative grass in the front entrance way garden area and added some stacked flat stones I collected from the creek bed nearby.

Make Fairy House Door

I found this small framed mirror at Goodwill, took out the mirror and cut it in half. Then I hot glued some scrap flat wood strips to the back.

Lastly I glued on some bits and pieces of scrap door hardware to fancy it up and added a small padlock and decorative key.

You can make your door out of almost anything. This is just what I had.
I drilled to small holes in the wood of the door back for screwing onto the log.

Attach Door to Log and Add Embellishments

I attached the door to the log with wood screws and added another piece of door hardware above the door and a gecko shaped drawer pull onto the log.
I also placed a willow bench on the rock porch. ( also a Goodwill find)

Fill Log With Potting Soil and Plant

Fill your hollow space with potting soil and plant whatever you'd like. I added Hyacinth, some annuals and some trailing greenery so they would cascade down the side of the log over time.

Invite Fairies and Enjoy!
