Fairy Garden Lamp Post

IMG_8289.JPG

Hello there! Welcome to my third instructable.
Today, I am going to teach you how to make a fairy lamp for a fairy garden.
In my garden, I have a few fairy houses, so I thought why not make my own accessories.
I am only twelve, and I am open to any suggestions on how to make my instructables better.
If you want me to do a certain instructable, just let me know!
Please vote for me in the gardening contest, and if you do, I will be very grateful.
Anyway, on with the intructable!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

I will sort the supplies into two groups: optional and needed

Needed:

Stick

Beads or charms

Sealant

Sharp scissors or knife

Paint brush

Something to protect your work space

Optional:

Acrylic paint

Water

Pliers

Step 2: Sharpen the End of Your Stick

Be extremely careful when you do this!
What you want to do is carefully carve the end of your stick into a point.
Tip: Cut over a paper, so that you can easily throw away the shavings later.

Step 3: Paint Your Stick (Optional)

You can paint it all one color, put dots on it, or design it however you want!

What I did is I dropped one drop of paint into a small amount of water, and stirred it up with my paint brush.

I diluted the paint to give it an aged appearance.

Step 4: Putting the Beads on the Wire

First, string your beads or charms onto the wire.

Do not cut the wire off of the spool yet.

I pushed the beads about 1.5 inches down the wire, and tied a knot below them to keep them from sliding further down towards the spool.

You will use the extra 1.5 inches to make your decorative swirl.

Step 5: Making the Swirl

The wire that I used is easy to bend, but some kinds are thicker than others, so you may need to use pliers.

I left 1.5 inches of wire at the other end of the beads to make the swirl.

Carefully roll your wire into a swirl shape.

If you want a larger swirl, leave more then 1.5 inches.

Step 6: Cut the Wire, Wrap, and Secure

Wrap the wire, the end where the spool is, around the stick tightly.

Once the wire is secured to the stick, you cut the wire off the spool.

Tuck any loose wire ends under to avoid the sharp edge.

The wire makes it easy to position the beads any way that you like.

The beads/lamp can be positioned close to the post, or further away from it. You decide!

Step 7: Apply Your Sealant

Lastly, apply your sealant by painting it or spraying it on.

Sealants can come in aerosol cans or jars.

Follow the directions for the sealant that you are using.

Put the sealant on the beads and on the wire.

Allow to dry completely before putting it outside.

Step 8: Enjoy!

Place your fairy lamp post anywhere in your fairy garden where you think fairies would like a little extra light ;-)

Thank you for reading this instructable!
