Face Drawing Tutorial (My Style)
Hi everyone! Today, we’ll be learning how to draw faces. This is using my style, and won’t directly allow you to develop your own method, but if you learn from different artists for a few years, you’ll develop your own techniques. I developed my style through referencing other people’s work.
I’ve introduced this drawing method to multiple people before I made this Instructable, but it still stays unknown. My drawing method was the result of years of drawing practice. It isn’t at an expert level, but hopefully it’ll be enough for basic uses, such as school projects or birthday cards.
Supplies
A pen and paper is all you need! (And an idea of the person’s features)
Draw the Base for the Face
Draw a circle, then add a few lines to make it look like a face. These serve as the guiding lines for the face.
Add Features to the Face
Erase the guiding lines, but not too much. There should be traces of the base so you can reference them to draw the facial features.
Then add facial features and hair like in the photos. Draw the shape of the eyes first, then the pupils. After that, add the nose, mouth and eyebrows.
Extra Features and Shading
Add hairstyles and a neck.
Then shade the drawing. This is optional, but it’s best if you do so. Shading areas are mainly the forehead, nose, neck and eyes. You can reference the photo.
After that, clear up all the confusing areas, including the leftover guiding lines, with an eraser.
Completed!
If you got here, congratulations! You’ve drawn a face! I’m happy you reached this level! To continue your drawing journey, you could try doing the same project but with more detail, for example, drawing the entire body. Or maybe, you could use different mediums. Whatever you want to do next, it’s a great thing that you got this far!
