Fabric Covered Box

If you sew like I do, you probably have lots of fabric scraps and are always looking for projects to use them. Here's a pretty storage idea to use up those scraps.

Supplies

Sewing machine, Iron, hot glue gun. Cardboard box. scissors. fabric scraps.

Cut Fabric

Cut fabric into strips about 2 inches wide.

Sew Strips Together

cut ends of fabric strips at an angle and sew together with 1/2" seam allowance. Press seams open.

Iron Fabric

Fold strips in half and press.

Glue Fabric to Box

Starting at the bottom of the box, begin gluing the folded fabric to the box. (fold side down) when you get to the corner, turn box and continue to glue fabric strip around box.

Continue to Glue Fabric to Box

keep winding the folded fabric around box ,overlapping  the previous row and covering the raw edge.  glue every couple of inches.

Add More Fabric

When it looks like you will be running out of fabric, leave about 8" and sew more fabric onto the end. press fabric in half and continue winding around box.

Keep Winding Fabric Around Box

Keep adding fabric until you get to the top edge of box.

Top Edge

Hot glue a solid strip of fabric around entire top edge of box. Turn the fabric to the inside of the box and glue down. There you have it! A colorful and decorative box to store whatever you choose.
