These cute coasters are handy to have around, they help prevent furniture from getting water stains. It doesn't take very long to make a set of 4 and it costs pennies to make because they are constructed out of fabric scraps. Also, this set makes a great gift for just about anyone.

Cut out 2 squares from the paper, a 4" square and a 5" square.

Using the 4" pattern cut 12 pieces out of the lightweight denim, 3 for each coaster.

Using the 5" pattern cut out a top and bottom for each coaster. 8 total 5" squares, 2 for each coaster.

Layer the squares in this order;

Bottom, 3 layers of lightweight denim and then the top square. Each coaster will have 5 layers.

Place a pin in the center of each coaster.

Fold the bottom piece up and over the denim, then turn under the top piece 1/2" and place this folded edge on top of the bottom folded edge. Pin. Repeat with other 3 sides of coaster. Fold corners in and pin.

Repeat with remaining 3 coasters.

Begin stitching around 1/8" from the edge of coaster. When you've sewn around all 4 sides, continue to sew but at a slight angle, turning when you get close to the next corner. Keep sewing and working your way to the center of the coaster. When you get to the center, back stitch 2 or 3 stitches to secure.

Repeat with remaining coasters.

Stack all 4 coasters and tie with a ribbon or length of twine.
