Fabric Clip Wrist Holder

I love to sew and have found using Fabric Sewing Clips come in really handy, especially when working with heavy or bulky fabrics. I started out by having my clips in a plastic container, and when i needed one, I just fished it out. The problem with this is, they slide around in the container making them hard to grab, then you have to make sure you are grabbing the correct side you need to squeeze to open. The worse part of it all is the noise it makes when the clips slide around in the plastic container. I get irritated easily and needed to find a better, more efficient and quieter way to use my clips.

I found this awesome 'Fabric Clip Wrist Holder' idea on a website by Domenica, which includes a lot of fun little projects. I wanted to share this particular idea with you, as it is one of my favorite sewing room tools! Now I can grab a clip from the correct side easily, quickly and quietly, when I need them while doing a project. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Step 1
Take the 6” x 10 1/2” piece of felt and press it in half with the long edges together. Unfold the fabric.

Step 2

Fold the long edges in to line up with the center crease and press the outer folds.

Step 3

Unfold the fabric again. Fold the short ends up by 1/4” (6mm) and press. This will help to hide the raw edges.

Step 4

Once the short ends are pressed in refold the other parts and give it all one last press.

Step 5

Take to your sewing machine and top-stitch all the way around the strap approximately 1/8” away from the edge.

Step 6

Separate your 3” Velcro strip and sew the ‘soft’ part of the Velcro to one end of the wrist strap, about ¼” -1/2” from the edge.

Step 7

Turn the strap over and sew the ‘scratchy’ part of the Velcro to the other end of the wrist strap. When done, you will have one piece of Velcro sewn to each side of the strap.

Step 8
Take the 20" strip of felt and fold it in half so the long edges are together. Press, then sew approximately 1/8” away from the cut edge. Sew ONLY the long raw edge, not not the sides.

Step 9

Now cut slits on the folded edge, approximately ½” deep and ½ wide. Be sure to not cut too close to the sewn line. Do this all along the folded edge end to end.

Step 10
With the loopy edges facing away from your palm, wrap the entire felt strip around your index finger. When done, it will resemble a flower!

Step 11
Using a needle and thread, stitch all the layers of the felt together to stop it from unravelling. Do this on the underneath part of the clip holder. It doesn’t have to be pretty, as this part will not be seen when the fabric clip wrist holder has been finished.

Go around the 2 times to be sure everything is secure. Tie off your thread ends and secure the thread done.

Step 12

Now you will attach the ‘flower’ fabric clip holder to the wrist strap. Simply stitch the underneath part of the flower to the center of the strap. Go around twice to be sure its secure.

ENJOY!
Now you can clip on your fabric clips to the ‘flower petals’ of your new clip holder. Strap it on and enjoy!
