FBRKN String Lamp

Build a sixties inspired string lamp.

At FBRKN we cut out the pieces in the laser cutter and the assembled them by clicking them together. The string then holds it all in place.

Begin with downloading the AI vector file FBRKN_lamp.ai and convert it to fit your requirements.

Cut, Paint and Absemble

Cut out the pieces in the laser cutter. We have used 4mm MDF but you can use acrylic plastic or any other material of your choice. If you don't have access to a laser cutter it is possible to cut the pieces with a scroll saw if you are patient.

You should get 6 "sides" and a top and bottom piece. The top piece is the one with the round hole that fits a standard, Swedish, light socket. Change the hole size if you have a different fixture.

When the pieces are cut you can paint them, we choose a black acrylic spray paint.

The Parts and Assembly

The sides pieces also have a top and bottom. The left one in the picture above is the top one and the right the bottom one.

In picture 2-4 you can see how they fit together. Begin with the top piece and put all the sides together by pushing them in the notches on the top piece. It might be a good idea to use some ordinary glue in between but it'll stay without.

The Bottom

Turn everything around and do the same thing with the bottom piece. Start with one side piece and work your way around.

The Thread

Take the thread of your choosing and thread a needle. There are four small holes on all the side pieces, one by each angle. Choose where you want to start and pull the thread through and make a knot.

Now it's time for you to start wrapping the tread around the lamp. You can thread it in different ways for different patterns and effects. You're also able to change colour of the thread if you like. You can either make a knot by a notch and glue the thread down or you can go through one of the holes on the sides. It's all up to you!
