The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is a civilian foreign intelligence service of the United States federal government, tasked with gathering, processing, and analyzing national security information from around the world. Unlike the FBI (a domestic security service), the CIA has no law enforcement function. It is mainly focused on overseas intelligence gathering, with only limited domestic intelligence collection. CIA is the only agency authorized for covert action.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a governmental agency belonging to the United States Department of Justice that serves as both a federal criminal investigative body and an internal intelligence agency (counterintelligence). FBI Protect the U.S. from terrorist attacks, foreign intelligence operations and espionage, protect the U.S. against cyber-based attacks and high-technology crimes, Combat public corruption at all levels.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), known informally as the Agency and historically as the Company, is a civilian foreign intelligence service of the federal government of the United States, officially tasked with gathering, processing, and analyzing national security information from around the world, primarily through the use of human intelligence (HUMINT) and performing covert actions. As a principal member of the United States Intelligence Community (IC), the CIA reports to the Director of National Intelligence and is primarily focused on providing intelligence for the President and Cabinet of the United States.

President Harry S. Truman had created the Central Intelligence Group under the direction of a Director of Central Intelligence by presidential directive on January 22, 1946 and this group was transformed into the Central Intelligence Agency by implementation of the National Security Act of 1947.

Unlike the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which is a domestic security service, the CIA has no law enforcement function and is officially mainly focused on overseas intelligence gathering, with only limited domestic intelligence collection. The CIA serves as the national manager for the coordination of HUMINT activities across the U.S. intelligence community. It is the only agency authorized by law to carry out and oversee covert action at the behest of the President.

The CIA mostly operates outside the United States to gather intelligence via a network of spies whereas the FBI predominantly operates within the U.S. to both gather intelligence as well as tackle federal crimes.

Today I will show to make a custom CIA and FBI badges at home. So, let's start the instructable.

The real badges are actually made with metal. But, here I have used PVC sheets to make the base plate of our badges.

First I took a print out of the actual image of CIA and FBI badges in a standard size, so that our final look could have some actual proportions. Then I pasted it on PVC sheet and roughly cut out the linings.

If you don't know how to make a PVC sheet out of a PVC pipe then watch the video here.

Smoothing the Base Plate

Next, I filed the base plates and curved out the other holes and smooth out the final look.

Curve the Birds & Other Letters

Here, I used my wood curving tools to curve the letters and give some feather, eyes & leg shapes to the bird.

Making Bold Letters

Here also, I used PVC sheets for making the bold and the big sized letters like FBI, CIA and US.

First, I marked the letters onto it and cut out the shapes, then I filed and made it smooth and finally sand the edges.

Adding Letters, Dividers and Border Linings

Here, I cut some thin strip lines out of PVC sheet and glued to all the borders linings and section dividing places. Also, I glued the bold letters and one circle plate in the middle of each our badges.

Curving Center Patterns

As I have added all the attachments to our badges, hence I roughly curved out some patterns in the center to visualize a design look there.

Although there are many more little patterns, letters and design marks out there in the center of the actual badges and it is is very much difficult to show them all.

Coloring the Badges

As we know the main material of the actual badges are metal and it is of Golden color.

So, here also I have painted the base color as golden and added other parts according the the theme color, like Black or Blue.

Then, there are some other parts also, like the bold letters US, FBI and CIA backgrounds, they also will be according to the theme color.

Adding the Banner Like Design

Here, I have used some thin Ribbon cloths and super glue to make the banner like design for the FBI badge. There will be some writings over it.

So, I fold it in half and cut it and glued it according to the design. Then, I colored and added it to the badge.

Color the Central Designs

Here, I finally put all the colors in the center part like backgrounds, letters, design marks and made some rough patterns there.

Then I also marked the letters like "SPECIAL AGENT" in the banner and made overall designs.

Making the Badge Holder

Now is the the time for making the Holder for our Badges. For this I used some Hard paper and Rexine Fabric Cloths.

I marked a template on the paper, slightly bigger than the badges and cut in the shape. Then I glued it to the Rexine Fabric and again cut the cloth accordingly.

Sewing the Border Lining

10a.jpg

Next, I punched some holes along the border line to bind threads in it. Then I took some thicker thread to sew along the the lining.

In my case I used blue threads and colored it black, but you can use black threads instead.

Making Belt Clip for Holder

11a.jpg
11b.jpg
11c.jpg
11d.jpg
11e.jpg

Now our holder is just ready, all we need is to add a back Clip on it, so that it can be easily carried out by clipping onto your belt or in pocket.

Therefore, I used a strip of PVC again and bent it in the shape of a clip with the help of a hot air gun. Then I sand the edges a bit and glued it to the back of our Badge Holders.

Attach the Badges Onto Holders

13a.jpg
13b.jpg

Lastly, I glued both the Badges onto the Badge Holders with some super glue or even you can use regular wood glue instead.

Thus our FBI and CIA Badges are now ready to operate.

PVC attaches very well with regular wood glue.

So, here is the final look of our Handmade FBI and CIA Badges with as much details I could provide. Thus It looks way cool and gives the feeling of being an Agent as we see in the Hollywood Movies.

Hence, this was a pretty fun project and I tried to make the instructable as easy as possible.
