Handle Extension for Phil and Ted's Explorer
Once we had had our Phil and Ted explorer for a few days i realised the handle was just to short, and my back was suffering. (I'm not unreasonably tall at 6'2 but apparently that's too much)
A look online found lots of people with the same problem, but the only solution was an aftermarket handle extender bar that would cost a small fortune to import to the UK and looked a bit weird.
So instead i put together an extension made of plumbing supplies with minimal tools..
It cost £12 from Wickes, and makes the buggy a little longer when folded but not excessively. If that caused a problem you can fold the handle round for getting it into a tight space.
If anyone was interested I could probably do a kit of parts ready to fit for around £15 posted to the UK. PM for details...
Buggy Prep
Remove the handle bar from the buggy. You'll need to undo two bolts, one on each side of the handle, and pull it out.
Cut the Pipes
Choose by how much you want to extend the handle. I went for 110mm.
Cut two lengths of pipe this size using the pipe cutter (or if you don't have one you can hack saw through it, although it's quite an effort).
Drill holes through each pipe for the bolts to go through.
Attach the compression joints to each end.
Paint it all black.
Attach to Pram
Push the two pipes into the buggy handle pipes, and push the handle bar into the compression joints.
Do up the bolts and tighten the compression joints, and you're done..
The picture shows it fitted before painting. Once painted it is waay less noticable..
