Evil Genius - Boozy Beverage With Edible Glowing Tentacles
I love Halloween and part of that love comes from the challenge of coming up with new and fun recipes to try out that have a decidedly spooky twist.
This drink, The Evil Genius, is the perfect example. It's easy and fun to make and even easier and more fun to drink/eat. And while the recipe calls for alcohol, you can easily make this non-alcoholic by substituting your favorite lemon lime soda for the vodka and Kool-ade for the orange curacao.
While the video gives you a pretty good rundown of the process, let me get you the list of ingredients and step by step directions you need for this foul concoction!
To make your own Evil Genius (complete with edible green gelatin tentacles) you will need:
- Two vitamin B2 tablets, crushed
- 3 cups lemon lime soda – divided
- 1 1/2 cups Virus Vodka – divided
- 1/2 cup orange Curacao
- 2 scoops lime sherbet
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 4 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
- 1 box lime gelatin
- 1 teaspoon instant vanilla pudding mix
You will also need:
- Tentacle Mold
- Dry ice
Grinding Up the Secret Ingredient
The first thing you want to do is crush the vitamin B2 tablets. If you have the capsules, this part is easy...just open them and pour out the vitamin powder. But for those of us with the tabs, you'll have to grind them down until they're a fine powder. For this recipe you want to use ONLY TWO. Any more than that and you'll start to be able to taste a bitter aftertaste. With just 2 you can't tell they're in there at all...until the final step.
Set this aside for now.
Making the Tentacle Gel
In a microwave safe bowl, mix 1 cup of the lemon lime soda with 1/2 cup vodka.
Sprinkle the surface of the liquid with your gelatin and allow to bloom for about 10 minutes.
Once it's bloomed, microwave the mixture for 30 seconds until dissolved and stir well.
Sprinkle your lime gelatin on top and again mix well.
After you've mixed in your lime gelatin, sprinkle in your pudding mix and again mix well. Don't worry if you end up with lumps...those will just make your tentacle look even creepier.
Finally, add in your crushed B-2 vitamins and again mix well.
Molding the Tentacle
Transfer your gelatin mixture to a squeeze bottle and use that to fill your tentacle mold.
If you don’t have your own tentacle mold, click here to read my molding tutorial. I used Smooth-sil 940 food grade silicone and tentacles I bought on Amazon.com.
Place the mold in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.
When they're done chilling, pop out of the mold and store in the fridge until you are ready for them.
Each batch of gelatin should make between 8-10 tentacles.
Making the Actual Beverage for Your Evil Genius
In a large jug or container, mix together your sherbet, pineapple juice, orange curacao, vodka and sprite. Mix well.
Add in a chunk of dry ice for effect.
Pour into a glass, garnish with a few of your tentacles, and enjoy!
For added effect, turn off the lights and turn on a black light and watch your tentacles glow!
