Etched Glass Jar for Growing Sprouts

I am very excited to have recently learned how to grow my own sprouts to eat on salads, sandwiches, and more! After testing a few growing methods, I have found that growing them in a glass jar is the easiest and fastest way. (Check out my instructable - How to grow sprouts in a glass jar)

I want to label and decorate my sprout growing jar since it sits out on my kitchen counter for all to see. I also use any excuse I can think of to play with the Cricut Mini I got for Christmas last year :)

Supplies:

• Contact Paper
• Cricut Machine (I have the Cricut Mini)
• Medium Glass Jar
• Foam Paint Brush
• Glass Etching Cream
• Latex Gloves
• Safety Goggles

Trim the contact paper to fit your stencil. I cut a 3"x5" piece. Stick the contact paper to your cutting mat with the paper backing side down.

Use Cricut Craft Room software to design a stencil of the word Sprouts. I'm using the free Cricut basic font that came with my machine. Cut the stencil using your Cricut machine using the following settings:

Speed - 1
Cut - 1
Pressure - 3
Blade Depth - 3

(To remove label from the jar - Fill your sink with hot water, and soak the jar until the label easily comes off. If there is any sticky residue left on the jar remove it with Goo Gone or something similar.)

Wash and completely dry your jar. Peel your stencil off the cutting mat and adhere it to your jar. Peel off the center pieces of the letters "p" and "o" and adhere them in the proper position. Make sure the stencil is stuck well and that there are no air bubbles.

(In a well ventilated area) Put on your Gloves and Safety goggles. Lay your jar on its side and put something on the sides of it to keep it from rolling. Stir your jar of etching cream well. With your foam paintbrush, apply a think layer of etching cream to cover all exposed areas inside your stencil.

let the cream sit on your jar for 20 min. Make sure the cream does not drip past the edges of the stencil.

With running water, rinse all of the etching cream off your jar and down the drain. Peel the stencil off the jar. Wash your jar with soapy water and dry it completely.
