Espresso Brownies for College Students

Need a quick morning snack? Something that tames your hunger while giving you a fighting chance at staying awake for that dreadful 8 am? Look no further! Espresso brownies will give you that much needed morning boost and then some. Plus, they're easy to make with minimal ingredients that can be retrieved from your campus Wal-greens or 7/11.

Gathering Your Materials

Here is a list of items you will need to make espresso brownies:

Cooking Items

  • Glass casserole dish [2-quartz-sized dish serves about 4 brownies]
  • [At least 3] Cooking bowls
  • Cooking whisk (a link is provided for visuals)
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cup [1/2 cup or 1 cup size works best]
  • Toaster/Oven

Perishables

  • Ground Espresso
  • Coca powder
  • Two Eggs [makes four brownies]
  • One stick of butter
  • Chocolate chips [two cups]
  • Sugar [two cups]
  • Condensed Milk

Mix Eggs With Flour

Items Needed

  • Eggs [2]
  • Mixing Bowl [Largest of the three]
  • Flour [2 cups]
  • Whisk

Instructions

1. Crack 2 eggs and release contents into large mixing bowl.

--Do not beat the eggs yet--

2. Pour 2 cups of flour into the mixing bowl.

3. Once the 2 cups of flour have been added, use your whisk to stir contents until uniform

Add Chocolate Chips and Butter

Items Needed

  • Measuring Cup
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Stick of butter
  • Microwave
  • Mixing Bowl

Instructions

  1. Put 2 cups of chocolate chips and a stick of butter into a measuring cup.
  2. Put cup into microwave for 1 minute (@ 600 Watts)
  3. When retrieving the cup, contents should be melted together.

--if they are not melted yet, continue to put contents into microwave at 30 second intervals--

4. Use your spoon to mix the contents until uniform.

Mixing the Flavor

Items Needed

  • Largest bowl [contents included from Step 2]
  • Coca Powder
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Measuring Cup
  • Condensed Milk
  • Whisk

Instructions

  1. Take the contents from the [step 2] bowl and add one tablespoon of vanilla extract into the mix.
  2. Mix two cups of coca powder into the mix.
  3. Add one cup of condensed milk into the bowl.
  4. Use your whisk to stir until the mixture is as uniform as possible

Mixing the Butter & Chocolate

Items Needed

  • Mixture in the largest bowl [from Step 4]
  • Mixture from Step 3 [Butter and Chocolate Chips]
  • Whisk

Instructions

  1. Add the chocolate/butter mix into the mixing bowl
  2. Add 1 cup of espresso powder
  3. Stir with whisk until the substance exhibits a pasty texture


Adding the Mix

Items Needed

  • Contents from the Largest Bowl [Step 5]
  • Casserole Dish
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Toaster / Kitchen Oven

Instructions

  1. Mix the paste-like mix into the casserole dish
  2. Use your wooden spoon to extract all contents from the large bowl into the casserole dish
  3. Spread the contents from the large mixing bowl evenly over the casserole dish


Cooking the Brownies

Items Needed

  • Casserole dish with brownie mix.
  • Toaster / Kitchen Oven

Instructions

  1. Place the casserole dish in the center of the oven
  2. Turn the device's timer to 15 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit
  3. After the 15 minutes are up, remove the brownies with caution. *Ensure that you have a solid grip on the tray with both of your hands covered with oven mitts or fabric hand-towels
  4. Set tray on even kitchen surface and let cool for about 5 minutes
  5. Test the hardness of the brownies with a stick of some sort (we used a chopstick)
  6. Cut the brownies in a square pattern.
  7. Enjoy
