Energy Drink Ornament

As I was cleaning my cubicle at work, I realized how many energy drinks I down a day, Why I'm still tired I don't know... I decided to bring them home and throw them in the old recycle bin. The rockstar cans caught my attention for some reason. I thought something fun can come out of this stuff! This is what came out of that thought.

What You Will Need

12 Rockstar Energy Drink Cans (at $2 a can, this may take a while...)
Packing Tape (I'm sure Adhesive would work too, but the tape makes them less sharp and spikey)
Scissors or Tin Snips
Thumbtack or a small nail
string (Dental Floss in this instance)

Jagermeister Optional...

Drink... Not much to this step. You may have some cans on hand like I did, but oh well. You might want to space this step out a bit, just so you don't spend a lot of money. Oh, and sleep... Shouldn't drink that much B 12 and try sleeping... Bad Idea...

Cut It Up!

Note: I'm using Rockstar cans to get the star shape on the can but if you want to use another can, stencil it on the can and cut it.
Rinse the cans out before you start. Less sticky...
To start the cut, you can use a nail or a thumbtack and make a hole. Somebody suggested using a can opener to take off the top. Or, you can just stab the can with yous dumpy scissors like I did.
Cut out 12 five pointed stars. Just cut the logo out. Try to keep the cuts straight and clean. Since it's aluminum,be careful to not cut yourself. If you don't have tin snips, scissors will work, the metal is thin enough. You are really gonna dull down your scissors over time doing this, so I don't reccomend using nice ones.
If you use Rockstar cans, use the same size can. The stars look the same size on all the cans, but they're not. Slightly different. It won't work right if they dont match up.

Bend It Up!

Now you should Have twelve rittle stars. Kinda pretty on their own. Take the points and bend them towards the center. Logo showing or not is up to you. I did it logo on the outside. Don't Crease or kink them! Aluminum is thin enough this will stress the metal and break it, making that piece useless for this project.

Tape It Up!

Your little stars now look like caltrops, tape 'em together. I used tape for a couple of reasons.
1. Puts a guard over the sharp metal edges
2. Helps to blunt the many points sticking out of this thing (I have a cat in this house. Pointy = BAD)
3. All I had was wood glue at the time and solder or welding was time consuming and a bit over the top.
Literally take 2 stars and tape the edges of a point together. Match these edges up as best as you can so the oter pieces fit well.

After a few minutes, you will have a bowl shape. This is 6 stars taped together. Halfway done. Continue this process till you have a 12 piece ball.

Hang It Up!

The ball is done, and all that left is to display it. It sits nicely on the table, stand built into the design and all, but looks even beter hanging up. Just take a tack or a pin and put a hole in one of the points on it. doesn't matter which one, its a ball. There is no 'this side up' on the thing. Run a piece of string through it. I used dental floss. Great stuff! Nigh indestructable, waxed so it works like sinew, nylon so it doesnt reall rot over time, and cheaper thanthread. Now comes in different colors! (and flavors for those of us that use it for its original purpose). Sorry, I digress. Just tie a knot in it and hang it. Looks good year round but looks really cool on a christmas tree.
