Mini Emoji Pinata
A fun project for kids using cardboard scraps and easy to find materials around the house.
Supplies
- cardboard
- gallon paint can or any large circular items to use as a circle stencil/tracer
- pencil
- scissors
- glue stick
- hot glue gun
- hot glue gun sticks
- hole puncher (or could use pencil instead)
- string
- yellow tissue paper
- white construction paper or regular paper
- black construction paper or regular paper
Trace and Cutout Two Circles
- Trace two circles using a large gallon paint can.
- Use scissors and cutout the two circle shapes
Cut Cardboard Strips
- Cut two long strips with equal widths about 3-4 inches wide
Bend Cardboard Strips
- Drag and roll cardboard strips along the edge of the table to bend them
Punch Hole and Add String
- Fold cardboard strip in half
- Use hole puncher (or pencil if you don't have a hole puncher) to cutout a hole
- Attach string and tie the ends of the string together
Hot Glue Cardboard Strips
- Use a hot glue gun and place glue along the edges of one side of the cardboard strip
- Place down and wrap the cardboard stip along the edges on one of the cardboard circle
- Hold it down until glue is dry and cardboard strip stays in place
- Cut to size cardboard strip as necessary to fill any remaining gaps
Glue Down Top Circle
- Place hot glue all the way around along the edges of the top of the cardboard strips
- Place and hold down the cardboard circle for the top of the pinata
- Let the glue dry
Cut, Fold, Cut Tissue Paper Strips
- Cut tissue paper in about 2 inch strips
- Fold strip in half, then fold it in half again
- Cut multiple short slits
- Repeat steps for other tissue paper strips
Glue Tissue Paper Strips to Cardboard Sides
- Use a glue stick and place glue at the bottom
- Place down a single stip of tissue paper
- Add glue on top of the first layer of tissue paper
- Place down another strip of tissue paper on top of the first layer
- Repeats steps to cover circle side of the pinata
- Use scissors to trim excess tissue paper along the edges of the circle
- Repeat process for the other circle side of the pinata
Cut, Fold, Glue, Repeat
- Cut more tissue paper strips as needed
- Fold and cut short slits on the tissue paper
- Glue down tissue paper strips with a glue stick starting at the bottom on the side edges of the pinata
Cutout Shapes for Emoji Face
- Cut out shapes for an emoji face expression of your choice using black and white construction paper
Glue Shapes Down
- Glue down shapes using a glue stick on top of the yellow tissue paper and your emoji pinata is complete!
