Electronics Box
An electronics box is designed to house electrical components and circuits. These boxes are often made from metals, plastics, and aluminum, but we're going to be making them out of wood. They come in various shapes and sizes. They are important for safety, preventing electrical hazards, and ensuring proper cooling components. It is a simple, easy, fun box to make.
Supplies
- 11.8" x 11.8" piece of Baltic plywood birch
- Wood Glue
- Computer
- Laser Cutting Machine
- Pencil
Modification
First, you choose a design in festi.boxes.py. For this project, you will use the electronics box. Then you need to dimension the box however you want, but it needs to fit the 12"x 12" birch plywood. For the electronics box, there are 3 dimensions for the box. The "x" represents the inner width. The “y” represents the depth. And finally, the “h” represents the height of your box. If you want your box to look like a cube, then you need to make all three of your dimensions equal. If you want your box to be rectangular, you need to make your "x" longer than the "y" to your desired measurement. You can generate the box you modified to see if you're satisfied with it. Click on the "generate" button to generate you box. You can always make some adjustments on the measurements and regenerate them. When you find the perfect fit for your box, you will need to click "download" right next to generate.
Importing
Secondly, you will need to proceed to RetinaEngrave and click " try now" to proceed to start importing. Before you do anything else, you will switch the "Muse Core" to "Muse Titan" on the top left corner. You need to click "File" on the top left and then "import" to tranfer the box to RetinaEngrave . The wooden box is 11.8"x 11.8" so you will create a 11.8''x 11.8" square and fit all the different sides of the assembly inside. If you look at the top, you will find a square to insert shapes. You need to click on rectangle and set the width to 12 and the height 12. You are now ready to put all the assemblies inside the square. Make sure that all the different parts are not touching each other or aren't too close. The laser will ruin your box if you place them too close to each other. You can add designs so it does not look bland. In order to do that, you can go to Google and search for an image you'd like. After you find one, you need to click "Save image as" and go back to RetinaEngrave to import it. You need to click "File" and then "import" to insert the image that you saved. Now you just put the images into the sides that you want. It is important that you fit all of the walls inside the 12" x 12" square. When everything in this step is done, you are now ready for the laser cutting.
Laser Cutting
Next, you need to choose the setting of how you want your design to be. First, you have to select one of the images that you chose. One the right side, there should be settings consisting of power and speed. The power represents how strong it is. The speed represents how fast the laser will cut. The slower the speed, the more power the laser generates. After you're done choosing your settings, make sure to save your file so that you can load it onto a flash drive. Upload it to the computer at the laser. You can go to the laser cutting machine and click on the file that you saved to start cutting it. Make sure to carefully center your wood to the red dot so that it can cut accordingly.

Finally, after the walls are cut off, you need to take the walls off carefully from the plywood. Carefully assemble the pieces together. You will need to take out the bottom side and place it down. Get all of your four sides and connect them using wood glue. I recommend to use pencils or something thin to apply glue to the wood effectively. After you glue at the sides together, you will now use the "holder" for the top. The "holders" are the four right triangles that will be placed on all four corners. They are what allow the top to be sealed without falling down inside the box They help stabilize the cap and give support to it. After you connect them with the walls, you are set to close the box shut. Important: Do NOT glue the top to the holders!
