Supplies
#1 Phillips Screwdriver
12V Power Supply
Old Flat Screen TV
3-4 Feet of 2 conductor cable (Optional- To connect power supply)
alligator clips (If desired)
Disassemble the TV using the screwdriver. Once you remove the screws in the back and open the housing, there is a bunch of nifty stuff inside. This includes a multi-voltage power supply, momentary contact pushbuttons, Speakers, a board mounted amplifier, a multi- port / multi-configuration card that (although I haven't done it) could be integrated with you PC or laptop, lexan or bakelite, film screen diffusers, And an LED Array. CAREFUL!! those big capacitors can hurt you!
Locate the ribbon tape jumpers that connect the screen glass panel to the power supply board, and disconnect them, and any other attachment.
Now you should have a TV without a screen and a TV screen. The screen portion should have a couple of long slender Circuit Boards. Each board should have a connector to which the ribbon cable attaches.
Now, place the screen in a place that can provide backlight for testing. Using your power supply CAREFULLY!! attach one wire from the 12v to a common, negative, or neutral point. Carefully touch the remaining lead to the points of the ribbon tape connector. With enough time spent, you can learn which point to use for Half lit, dimmed, color tinted and transparent. Once you're satisfied, secure the screen in your window and apply voltage as necessary to get the desired effect. I am using a power unit from an old PC.
