Electronic Component Storage Rack

If your hobby is related to electronics in any way, there is a very high chance that you have many small components that keep getting mixed up and generally are a great pain to find. I had this problem and I decided to fix it. I decided to make a rack to hold all my small electronic components, this is how I made it.

As in every project, a few materials and tools are needed.

-Materials: 1. A4 sheets of paper

2. Wood, Plywood or MDF (Medium Density Fibre-wood)

3. A bamboo skewer

- Tools:

1. A hobby knife

2. Super glue / wood glue

3. A hacksaw

4. Scissors

5. A Glue-stick

6. A holepuncher

The Paper bags store the components and hang from the bamboo skewer on the rack.

1. Cut the A4 sheet of paper into eight equal pieces.

2. Take one piece and fold it in half lengthwise.

3. Open up the paper and apply glue to the edge of one side and the bottom.

4. Fold the side without glue on its edge so it is just crossing the half way crease.

5. Fold the other side so the small area with glue is overlapping the side folded earlier.

6. Apply glue to a small area at the bottom and fold it over a bit. Now you should have a bag with an opening at the top. Lastly, punch a hole at the top centre of the bag. Your bag is done. Make as many as you need and varying sizes helps too.

Making the rack is simple. Cut three pieces of wood, two small ones and one long one.

The two small pieces are around 10 cm tall and as wide as the longer piece. The longer piece is the base and can be as long as you need it to be, just make sure that the skewer is 2 cm longer than the base. Apply super / wood glue to the bottom side of the smaller pieces and stick one to either side of the base. Cut small channels 0.9 cm deep on each small piece where the red marking is in the picture. The skewer will slide in place here.

Add your components into the paper bags and hang them on the skewer. The good thing is that once the bag is on the skewer, you don't have to take them out, just tilt the bag and pour the components into your palm. Adding more bags is also possible.

In order to store all my small components, I had to add a few more levels. I added small dividers so I can tilt the bags on all levels. I made variations so that I could add bigger bags as well.
