Electric Toothbrush Holder

Bathrooms just don't have a good place for an electric toothbrush. I made this small shelf to fill this need.

Tools needed:

• Table saw
• Router with quarter round bit and keyhole cutting bit
• Drill
• Miter saw
• File or wood rasp
• Screwdriver
• Sandpaper
• Wood Glue (Elmer's School glue works fine on wood)

Material needed:

• Wood of your choice (this is made with red oak scavenged from a pallet)
• Tempered hardboard (Masonite, Melamine)

Start by ripping your wood to the height of the finished shelf. In this case 1½". To give it a nice look, using a router cut a quarter round along one edge. This will be the top of the outward facing side.

On a table saw, rabbet in two grooves on the opposite side from the quarter round. These will hold the tempered hardboard shelf so make sure they're wide enough to accommodate the thickness of the material you're using. The space between the two shelves is where the cord will be stored.

Determine how large the shelf needs to be to accommodate your charger. In this case it's 2½ x 3½". Miter cut the pieces, then measure for the shelf. I left the wood natural, but you may want to apply a finish of some sort. This would be the time if that's what you choose.

Cut the shelf panels and file a notch for the power cord to pass through. Lay in a small amount of glue into the rabbets and place them on the shelf pieces.

Cut the back and drill two holes to attach the back to the sides. Using a keyhole bit, cut two keyholes in the back to hang the shelf on the wall.

Tuck the power cord into the space created between the two shelf pieces and attach the back. Put a couple of screws in the wall and hang it.
