Eggs in a Basket Recipe !

image (13).jpg

This is a Recipe on how to make my favorite breakfast dish, Eggs in a Basket. It is a relatively simple dish that combines the idea of eggs and toast by combining them and cooking them together. The way the egg cooks onto the toast makes for a unique and amazing flavor.

Get the Necessities!

In order to make Eggs in a Basket you will need these items:

  • A Griddle (or pan for one at a time)
  • Eggs
  • Bread
  • Spatula
  • Butter
  • Small Cup (you want its opening to be smaller than the size of the bread)
  • Syrup
  • Clean Counter Top or Cutting Board
  • Plate

The egg to bread ratio should be 1:1

Preheat and Prepare the Griddle

What you will need for this step: Griddle (or stove with pan), Butter.

For a Griddle: Plug your griddle in and set the heat to about 300°F. let the griddle reach temperature before continuing. When ready; spread butter over the griddle area in which you will be cooking, you should do this relatively sparingly. the butter will act mostly as a coating to make sure that the bread and eggs don't stick to the pan while still adding some flavor to the bread. Please continue to the next step.

For a Pan: Preheat the pan using a Medium/high setting on you stove. let the pan reach temperature before continuing. When ready; spread butter over the pan, you should do this relatively sparingly. the butter will act mostly as a coating to make sure that the bread and eggs don't stick to the pan while still adding some flavor to the bread. Please continue to the next step.

Caution: from now on take extra precaution around the Griddles and Pans as they are going to be very hot. Never leave the room while a Griddle or Pan is being heated or over a flame.

What you will need for this step : Bread, Cup, Preheated Griddle/Pan, Counter Top / Cutting board

The "Basket" portion of Eggs in a Basket is the hole you will create using your cup. In order to this you should place the bread on the cutting board and press the cup open end in to the bread. Rotate the cup in place until the circle disk of break is free and remove. Keep this disk as it can make a nice extra piece of toast that you may cook with the rest!

Place the bread onto the Griddle/Pan and continue to the next step.

Add the Eggs to the Basket!

Things you will need for this step: The Preheated Griddle/Pan, The prepared Bread "Basket", Eggs

Now that the bread is cooking it is time to place the egg. Crack 1 egg into the middle of the bread. Let this cook for at least a minute. The total length of cooking is entirely dependent on how you like your eggs, personally I prefer over-hard so I leave this to cook for a 2/3 minutes before continuing to the next step.

** this is a good time to butter and throw those disks from the previous steps onto the griddle to cook too!**

Flip!

What you will need for this step: Spatula and your now cooking Eggs in a Basket

Using the spatula to get the whole cooking Eggs in a Basket and flip it over. its very important to make sure that the spatula gets under the eggs part because , especially if you like runny eggs, it will not flip with the bread and cook properly. leave on the Griddle/Pan to cook for about half the time you previously cooked the the other side.

Serve With Syrup
