Editing .STLs Online With Meshy

Meshy lets you unleash your creativity by effortlessly editing mesh files right from your web browser, all without the hassle of logging in. While Meshy is still in its early stages of development, it's already a formidable tool in to edit your stls!

Supplies

  • Visit Meshy's website
  • A mesh file you're eager to edit (you can find one on platforms like thingiverse.com, printables.com, thangs.com, for instance)
  • Access to a 3D printer or a 3D printing service

Choose Your Mesh

To kick things off, select the mesh file you'd like to work on. In this tutorial, we'll use the iconic 3DBenchy model as an example.

Uploading to Meshy

Simply upload your chosen file to Meshy by clicking on the "Upload Mesh" button. It's that easy!

Unleash Your Creativity

Now, let your imagination run wild! For instance, let's say you want to elongate the model and add some personalized text to the bottom. Click on the "Stretch/Shrink" button, and interact with the model to select where you want to stretch it. Specify the stretch distance (e.g., 10 mm in this case) and then hit "Accept."

Refine Your Creation

Want to remove unwanted details? No problem. Use the "Split/Trim" feature, select the XY plane, and adjust the z-position to trim the bottom. Once you're satisfied with the changes, hit "Accept."

Add Personal Touches

Enhance your creation by incorporating text. Click the "Cutout" button, select the bottom face, and choose 'text' from the dropdown menu. Don't forget to keep an eye on the history line menu at the bottom, which allows you to edit or remove any features you've added along the way.

Final Touches and Downloads

With your masterpiece complete, you're ready to take it to the next level. Download the mesh to bring your creation to life with your 3D printer. If you're not quite done or want to make further refinements in the future, you can also download the model as a save file. This way, you can upload it again later and pick up right where you left off.
