Edible Cobwebs
3 Tablespoons Meringue Powder
6 Tablespoons Water
1 Tablespoon Cream of Tarter
1 Tsp Vanilla
1 1/2 - 2 pounds Powdered Sugar
2 cups Marshmallow (packed) then melted
8 (84 g) Packages gelatin- I buy a 12 pkg box of Knor gelatin
1 Cup Hot Water
Approximately 1 tsp black gel icing color ( I use super black)
½ tsp – 1tsp of flavouring of your choice (I use natural raspberry flavouring)
fine Seive/strainer
Parchment paper
Microwave proof mixing bowl
Piping tip #2
Crisco
Coupler
Pastry bag
Spider web template
Paper towel
Pour into piping bag and using a #2 tip and carefullly pipe webs onto parchment paper. This stuff is very messy so be prepared! The mixture will harden as you work so just take the tip off the bag and microwave for 5 seconds and run hot water through the tip until it flows again. When mixture in bowl thickens, just microwave for 20 seconds at a time until warm and smooth again.
You will start to instinctively know what pressure you need to use as you go along and your lines will improve. Your first web may not be as good as subsequent webs, so don't be discouraged!
Let set for about 4-5 hours (minimum) or overnight. Then place on cakes, cookies, use as a garnish (I made a cheesecake ball brain and decorated garnished the serving tray with these webs) and in this photo, I decorated a JELL-O brain with gummy worms and cobwebs for my kids' daycare party. You can make different sized and decorate just about any type of Halloween treat. Or just eat them alone - they taste delicious!.
