Edible Cobwebs

IMG_9258.JPG
These edible cobwebs are so much fun for Halloween decorating! So versatile and flexible, they can be eaten alone (taste like gummy candies) or they can be used to decorate anything from cakes, to cupcakes to cookies,  or even garnish a JELL-O zombie brain (as in my final photo).

. Add icing sugar until it is about twice as thick as buttercream icing (very stiff) may be lumpy. Melt marshmallows in bowl coated with crisco for about 30 second and stir well. Melt for 10 more seconds, if necessary. Add melted marshmallows to mixture.

Fit tip and coupler on pastry bag and fill with edible web mixture. Place a template cobweb/spider web under parchment paper (printed off from internet photo and reduced or enlarged, as per your preference) .

Pour into piping bag and using a #2 tip and carefullly pipe webs onto parchment paper. This stuff is very messy so be prepared!  The mixture will harden as you work so just take the tip off the bag and microwave for 5 seconds and run hot water through the tip until it flows again. When mixture in bowl thickens, just microwave for 20 seconds at a time until warm and smooth again.

You will start to instinctively know what pressure you need to use as you go along and your lines will improve. Your first web may not be as good as subsequent webs, so don't be discouraged!

Let set for about 4-5 hours (minimum) or overnight. Then place on cakes, cookies, use as a garnish (I made a cheesecake ball brain and decorated garnished the serving tray with these webs) and in this photo, I decorated a JELL-O brain with gummy worms and cobwebs for my kids' daycare party. You can make different sized and decorate just about any type of Halloween treat. Or just eat them alone - they taste delicious!.
